| I start by setting up the still life in my studio. It sometimes takes as long to get the composition right as it does to complete the painting. |

| The lightest pieces of the tomatoes go in first. |

| To simplify my paintings, I look for three values in the main subject. |

| Here I have added the blue cloth. This complementary color sets off the color of the tomatoes. |

| To finish this painting, I added the table color, tomato stems and highlights. The edges are modified to push the farthest tomatoes back. |
