Red Plums

I really like this painting for a few different reasons. The colors, of course, are one reason; but also the roundness of the plums against the straight lines of the dish and cloth. Fun stuff!

Lazy Daisy Days

White daisies are great subjects. There is a lot more color in them than one would think. I especially like working with the edges of the petals to make them seem close, or farther in the distance.

One Slice

I think that yellow is the most difficult color to paint. Getting the shadows to read right and not be muddy takes some work. This slice of lemon turned out good!

Spot

I did this painting a while ago for the DPW Black and White challenge and I must say it was a challenge to get the values to work. Painting a black object in the bright sun versus the same black in shadow. And then painting white in light and shadow. The question is, which is darker, white in shadow or black in sunlight. This is hard work!

A Ride to Remember

My good friend, Scott Roark, founded "A Ride to Remember", a cross-state cycling event from Simpsonville, SC. to Mt. Pleasant, SC. to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer's. Last year, the cyclists encountered rain showers along the way.... One of the reporters along for the ride, David Moody, snapped a photo of one rain event. I thought it would make a great painting. This is the final result. The sale of this painting will benefit the Alzheimer's Association.

Season III

Aaaahh Spring! I know we are not close yet but I am ready. Spring is my favorite season. Gardening, plein air painting and oh yeah, allergies!
